Today, I had an appointment with a JC mate at the new West Coast Plaza.
We were happily settling down at Petit Provance cafe when he suddenly exclaimed: shit.
What happened was, his E-Z Link card slipped out of his pocket while he was taking his wallet out. well it wont be such an issue should the floor we're on is just plain cement. But no, it's actually a platform made of long wooden planks nailed together, and there's gaps in between each planks. So, it's mysteriously unlucky for my friend that his card happen to drop straight through the gap! What made it worst was his card has 70 dollars cash value inside!!!
Initially my friend wanted to just write it off. But I refuse to let him give up so easily. There's bound to be a way. I mean, I can write it off if it's 10/20 dollars. But it's 70 bucks!! the F.C in me cant allow such an amt of money go to waste!!
Immediately, I went into the cafe to grabe 2 knife, hoping to make a miracle happen. It was difficult. The gap was wide enough for the knives to reach the card, but not enough to achieve our objective.
I went to the 7/11 store nearby, in search of a pair of chopsticks. No luck.
I stood in front of the counter, looking around to see if there's something that would be useful to us. TING TING! Found it! I bought a roll of scotch-tape, thinking that if we can stick one end to the card, we may be able to fish it out.
Well, it wasnt that easy. While i was searching for a tool in the store to improvise our strategy, my fren manages to push the card further away from our sight.
We tried to tape the end of the knife, or a straw but to no available. Eventually, the card was pushed right under the plank, thus out of sight. My friend sighed and tapped me on the shoulder, 'forget it esther. It's fine, I'll get a replacement for it.'
I refuse to acknowledge his words. Mind you, I was wearing an off-shoulder top and low hip jeans. I was literally giving a free show to people walking past us. But I just don't believe we cant retrieve it! Out of 'disbelief', I shove a straw into the adjacent gap, hoping to re-position the card within out sight. And, vola!
I managed to move the card into an advantageous position for us to retrieve and the rest is history!!
There's many factors/reasons why I refuse to give up.
1) we just started our coffee session, I don't want to feel guilty with his card beneath us, reminding him that he lost $70 bucks due to ULTRA bad luck.
2) I just want to enjoy this catching-up/open-case appointment with my friend.
3) I just don't believe we cant retrieve it.
4) I don't give up unless I've really tried my best.
Of course, not giving up may not always work if you don't improvise your strategy. We changes tactics at least 3 times!
Whatever it is, the coffee session ended up really great, I can feel my friend was really happy to be able to save himself $70 and I am very happy to be able to help!
:)
Okay, Batam! Here I come!!
PS: Opened. *winks.

Surrendipity
Unbelievable la!
LOL! sorry i just have to blog this down~!
I was kinda bored while doing telephoning and decided to call a good fren of mine to 'disturb'. Well of course, I called with the intention to ask for her chio and older(literally a MILF), sister's number and perhaps... you know, get lucky... IN BUSINESS(I'm serious!). We were talking really chattily, like how old frens do and suddenly:
Fren: 'Oh, my sis's back home.'
Me: Oh really? Hey pass the phone over leh!
Fren: for what?
Me: Flirt la! No la... just to say hi, it's been a long time since i've seen her anyway.
Fren: Disgusting! k you hold on. Jie...
Sister: Hello!
Me: Hi!!! How are you?
Sister: I'm good. Where are you working at now?
Me: Prudential. (said with a smile)
Sister: oh you mean as an adviser?
Me: yes, As a financial consultant.
Sister: well, it's about time for me to start some endowment policies for my gal so... do you still have my number?
Me: No, that's why I asked 'fren' to pass the phone.
Sister: ok.. I'll get her to...
Me: Well, you can give me now, I've got my pen and paper ready.
Sister: oh ok! 9XXXXXXX. I'll be busy this 2 weeks coz I've got some project going on. So I'll see you in the first week of june?
Me: Sure! hey, when are we ever going to play MJ together?
Sister: are you good at it? or u might get trashed by me.
Me: I'm ok. Good enough I guess. How big a bet do u play?
Sister: 5-1.

The Heat is ON.
Took my wounds more than 2 weeks to heal. It really seems that age is catching up on me. In 6 mths' time, it will be my 2nd anniversary in Prudential. Time flies. The phrase, 'Time and tide waits for no man', could not be more true than ever. Just 18 mths ago, I was a fresh newbie, so green that it hurts the eye to look. I knew nothing about work, I had nothing to my name and not even an image to the title Financial Consultant.
I had only one thing in mind - I want to make it. I WANT TO SUCCEED.
I didnt care the hows or when, I just WANT to succeed. To be somebody, to be THE Esther Nip. 2008 went by with a lot tears, pain, sweat and growth. Training under the LEGENDARY 'Devil' mentor, was akin to breaking my own bones and peeling my own skin to be REBORN. Wounds healed, transforming into a beautiful canvass that I'm proud of. Pride is a dangerous thing, a tricky monkey to handle. Let it round wild and BANG! you hit an enormous wall because pride took away your sight. Put it on a tight leash, there's no drive to excel and be outstanding.
Funny, I'm not proud of what I've achieved simply because I've failed to achieve my own personal goal. Yet, I'm proud of the pitfalls I've suffered as I've always managed to stand up no matter how battered I am. I was having my 'magic hour' with myself while traveling from Novena to City Hall today and a thought struck me right in the eye. People of our industry always hold super producers in awe not because of their scary success of bringing in sales, but because of the high volume of rejection they had to go through to reach the clients who say yes to them! I believe it's insulting to them to take it for granted that their sales are done with 100% closing ratio.
Likewise, our roadshow queen in La Famille, she must have gone through numerous rejections in order to get the 2 cases! KUDOS to you sister!! :)
Ok, enough of reflections and philosophical thinking... Geez, I feel so G**D**N old!!! Aiyo, talking as though I've been in this line for years already! (No offense to Boss and Ken!! YIKES!!) hahaha... Truth to be told, that's how life is for me, every single day, multiple things are happening simultaneously, many things to be done, many instructions and teachings must be set right, right from the start. For me, events that happen in a day are most probably a few days of someone who is not doing what I'm trying to do. As you can see I don't blog often but when I do, the updates are UBER L-O-N-G!
A very very warm (close to HOT! - no pun intended :P) welcome to our latest 2 additions to the family! It's just SO FUN to have more people in the team to do activities together!!! I'm very touched to see the numbers growing and there's more life in the office. Pardon my emotional comments, afterall, Lisa and I only had each other in the past.
Coaching and leading new peeps has been a great joy! (An exclusion to be noted.) Life's so much more fulfilling right now to the extent that 24 hrs a day aint enough anymore. Sales must not take a beating just because I have extra responsibilities. We don't accept reasons. *winks* Thank you kor, for being understanding thus far. This week has been really tiring as my day starts at 7am and ends after 12midnight not because I go clubbing (unfortunately NOT) but because the bulk of my clients needing to do OT has increased XX-fold. Other than attending meetings in the mornings, and appointments during the day and night, I'd join the rest to canvass whenever I have a free hour or 2. Likewise, in order to 'Do or Die', you can't neglect either pool of clients (refering to warm and cold markets).
This 2 weeks are gonna be CRAZY for me, and I'll ENJOY going crazy. To know what's up for the coming weeks, please catch the next entry! hehehe...
